The NFL Needs to Kill Thursday Night Football

by Matt Fischer

Roger Goodell likes to give out punishments. Well Commish, you need to give Thursday Night Football the death penalty.

TNF has horrible games that nobody cares about unless you’re betting on the game or a fan of one of the two unfortunate teams that has to turn around and play four days after your last game.

I’m going to watch my lone Thursday Night Football game of the season because my favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs, will beat the Oakland Raiders. I haven’t watched any of the other Thursday games this season nor will I the remainder of the season. If I’m watching football during the week, it’s college football.

Leave Thursday night to the kickoff game where the defending Super Bowl Champions host a game and then be done with it…outside of Thanksgiving.

More Monday, Less Thursday

I know the money hungry NFL won’t want to lose anything but think of how much you will gain with my solution…a Monday Night Football doubleheader for 16 weeks!

That’s right, eliminate the Thursday game and double up on Monday night. You’ll be more inclusive NFL…think about it. Move kickoff up so viewers on the East Coast don’t have to wait until midnight for the outcome. West Coast fans don’t have to miss the start of a Monday night game.

With players trying to recover from injuries, they need extra time to perform. Thursday Night Football prevents that by often making players perform twice in five days. Give them extra time so you can improve your product.

NFL you can strengthen your brand by continuing to dominate Sunday’s and taking over Monday night across the country. Imagine having Monday nights like this next season:

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos

Green Bay Packers at New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks at Oakland Raiders

You can rotate nights where you have divisional match-ups with AFC vs. NFC match-ups. Viewership will go way up. Give people the games they want to see and eliminate the horrible football that’s become the norm on Thursday nights.

NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 7 – 2017

We want you to survive your eliminator pool this NFL season so we’re giving our free survivor pool strategy all season. Our picks are based upon our data driven NFL predictions and power rankings.

The NFL needs to Kill Thursday Night Football!

Survivor Pool Pick Strategy:

There are four steps to easily cut down your potential pick for your NFL survivor pool.

Eliminate the Teams We’ve Already Picked in 2017

The Falcons blew a 17-0 halftime lead last week at home to the Dolphins giving us our first incorrect NFL Survivor pick of this season.

We’re 5-1 this season having taken the Bills (week 1), Raiders (week 2),  Packers (week 3), Seahawks (week 4) and Eagles (week 5). Only 3 of those teams, the Raiders, Eagles and Bills are predicted to win this week so they’re out our of group of 15 week 7 winners.

Eliminate Toss-Up Winners

First we eliminate toss-up games.  That means we’re cutting the 1 point winners out of the list.  The Chargers are our only 1 point predictions this week so we’re still at 11 teams remaining.

Eliminate Road Winners

Next we eliminate road teams.  I don’t like taking road teams to win in the NFL at all.  Just too risky when you need a win, go with a home team.

Eliminating predicted road winners, the Titans, Saints, Cardinals and Cowboys are out of consideration giving us 7 teams left.

Eliminate Low Ranking Winners

Next, I look for team that aren’t in our 20 of the power rankings.  This eliminates the Colts, Giants and Bears.  4 teams are left to consider for our week 7 NFL Survivor Pool Pick.

Eliminate Winners Playing Good Teams

Then, I look for our predicted winners that are playing teams ranked in the top 16 and take them out of consideration.  This eliminates the Patriots who play the Falcons in a Super Bowl rematch.  The list is down to three.

Final  Survivor Pool Pick Candidates

3 – Dolphins – The Dolphins are just too inconsistent to trust as your survivor pool pick right now.  Their offense has been putrid most of the season but the defense keeps them in games.  With this week being a divisional game against the Jets, they’re the least confident pick of the three finalists.

2 – Steelers – Pittsburgh is a good team but this is also a divisional game against a Bengals team coming off of a bye week.  The Steelers should win but not confident enough for them to be the best choice of the week.

1 – Vikings – Minnesota faces the Ravens this Sunday.  The Vikes defense is solid week in and week out.  Joe Flacco has had a terrible season with throwing the ball to the other team resulting in pick sixes.  I’ll take my chances that Minnesota can win rather easily.  Take the Vikings to survive NFL Week 7.

Get our weekly NFL Survivor Pool Picks.

NFL Power Rankings Week 7 – 2017

Using our predictive formula we rank all 32  teams in our weekly NFL power rankings.  The Chiefs lost their first game on Sunday but remain #1 in our data driven NFL power rankings.
