What's Inside

Recap of Week 3

A lot of eye opening results in college football week 3.  We review the games that made a big impact in college football this weekend.

Cardinals Crush

We’ll start with Louisville dominating Florida State.  This game was never close. The Cardinals led 35-10 at half and finished the Seminoles off 63-20.  That’s the most impressive result of the 2016 college football season so far.  Lamar Jackson is now nationally known.

Hawkeyes Downed

Iowa is a defending Big Ten division champ and got beat at home by FCS champ, North Dakota State 23-21.  That this game was close shouldn’t be surprising as the Bison have challenged many FBS teams over the past few seasons but for the Hawkeyes to lose it at home is a surprise.  The Big Ten has to hope the Hawkeyes don’t repeat as division champs or that can greatly hurt the conference’s reputation.

Buckeyes Batter Sooners

Urban Meyer took his Buckeyes to Norman and battered OU.  We predicted the Buckeyes by 14 so we weren’t expecting it to be too close.  Where do the Sooners go from here?  They entered the season hoping to return to the College Football Playoff but those hopes are finished.  Do they stumble the rest of the way or focus on defending their Big 12 Championship?  The Buckeyes are rolling and look like a playoff team.

‘Canes Contenders?

Miami went to Appalachian State and imposed their will.  The ‘Canes looked great cruising to victory.  They look like they can challenge the top tier of the ACC.  After the Tennessee struggle to beat App State, the ACC can use this game when it comes time to compare conference resumes for playoff selection.

Week 4 Games to Watch

Week 4 has some great conference match-ups.  We preview them and give you what we think Vegas will set the line at for the game.  The predicted spread isn’t our prediction for the game, just what the line could open at.

1 – Florida at Tennessee – This is an elimination game in the SEC East.  The winner going Georgia as the favorites to go to Atlanta.  Florida has been impressive so far flying under the radar while Tennessee is looking to impressive many who feel they haven’t lived up to expectations.  The Gators will be without Del Rio at QB and Cameron Sutton is out for the Tennessee defense.

Predicted Point Spread – Tennessee -10

2 – Georgia at Ole Miss – The Rebels blew a double digit lead against Alabama in week 3 and must rebound quickly to host a good Georgia team.  The Bulldogs escaped Mizzou with a 1 point victory and will have to play better next Saturday.

Predicted Point Spread – Ole Miss -4

3 – Wisconsin at Michigan State

Was Wisconsin looking ahead this weekend?  Only beating Georgia State by 6 seems to make you think they were looking ahead to Sparty next Saturday.  Michigan State was impressive winning at Notre Dame on Saturday night.  The winner here joins the race for the Big Ten title.

Predicted Point SpreadMichigan State -6

4 – Stanford at UCLA

These two look to be the two best teams in the Pac-12 early in the year.  Stanford comes off a convincing win over USC while the Bruins won at BYU.

Predicted Point Spread – UCLA -3

5 – Arkansas at Texas A&M

These two have played some great games in the past and this one sets up to be another.  Both enter undefeated and know a win hear boosts them into talk of contending in the SEC West.

Predicted Point Spread – Texas A&M -4

SportsFormulator College Football Play of the Year Candidates

Here are our top 3 candidates for 2016 college football player of the year:

3 –  Christian McCaffrey (RB – Stanford) – Still putting up big numbers.  Needs more high profile games to bolster resume.  This weekend at UCLA gives him that opportunity.

2 – J.T. Barret (QB – Ohio State) – Putting up big numbers for the Buckeyes and a huge road win at Oklahoma have him in the race for best player in college football.

1 – Lamar Jackson (QB – Louisville) – He’s been a touchdown machine leading a prolific offense.  Being the signal caller for a team that put 63 up against a top 5 team makes you player of the year after 3 weeks.
