Survivor Pool Pick Strategy:
There are four steps to easily cut down your potential pick for your NFL survivor pool. We have 16 NFL week 1 winners to cut down from so let’s start picking a survivor.
Eliminate Toss-Up Winners
First we eliminate toss-up games. That means we’re cutting the 1 point winners out of the list.
Gone are the Lions (against Cardinals), Titans (against Raiders), Dolphins (against Bucs) and Panthers (at 49ers). 12 teams remain.
Eliminate Road Winners
Next we eliminate road teams. I don’t like taking road teams to win in the NFL at all. Just too risky when you need a win, go with a home team.
Eliminating predicted road winners, three of our 12 remaining teams are out. The Falcons (at Bears), Steelers (at Browns) and Colts (at Rams) are no longer being considered for a survivor pick.
Eliminate Low Ranking Winners
Next, I look for team that aren’t in our 20 of the power rankings. The Texans (24th) and Bengals (23rd) cut our list down to seven teams.
Eliminate Winners Playing Good Teams
Then, I look for our predicted winners that are playing teams ranked in the top 16 and take them out of consideration. This eliminates the Patriots (against Chiefs), Redskins (against Eagles) Packers (against Seahawks) and Cowboys (against Giants) .
We’re down to three teams for our NFL week 1 survivor pool pick.
Final Survivor Pool Pick Candidates
3 – Denver Broncos (against Chargers) – A game with two new head coaches make this the least confident pick of the three.
2 – Minnesota Vikings (against New Orleans Saints) – The Vikings open up a new stadium while welcoming back Adrian Peterson who know joins Drew Brees in the backfield for the Saints.
1 – Buffalo Bills (against New York Jets) – While the Bills are breaking in a new head coach, the Jets are a team lacking playmakers. The Jets should be a mess in week 1 so take the Bills at home to survive NFL week 1.
