2023 College Football Rankings – Week 6

A low profile week 5 of college football still creates some big moves in our week 6 college football rankings! The Pac-12 continues to move up while we have a new #1 again…they’ve been there before this season.

The major movers in week 5:

  • James Madison and Miami of Ohio (each up 39)
  • Bowling Green and Rice (each up 29)
  • Western Kentucky (up 33)
  • Pittsburgh (down 56)
  • Stanford (down 47)
  • Arizona St (down 38)
  • Georgia Tech (down 33)
  • South Carolina (down 31)

College Football Playoff Predictions

If the 2023-24 College Football Playoff were this weekend, here’s the line-up:

  • #1 Florida St. vs. #4 Texas – With the LSU loss this weekend, it hurt the Noles. However their wins over LSU and Clemson are still the two best any team has so far this season. Texas has the Red River Rivalry Saturday and a win there puts them in the driver’s seat to the Big 12 title game and a playoff appearance.
  • #2 Georgia vs. #3 Michigan – Georgia is living on the edge so far this season. I think they know they’ve just got to win the SEC and they’re in the playoff with a chance at a 3-peat but they’re keeping games interesting to say the least. Michigan has been dominant in every game. They need to be tested to move up in these rankings but those tests won’t come until November.

Heisman Trophy Rankings

  1. Caleb Williams (QB – USC) – his defense is doing it’s best to help him repeat as the Heisman Trophy winner. He has to put up a ton of points every week for USC to win so he’s still the front runner.
  2. Michael Penix (QB – Washington) – making things look easy but had no TD’s this week.
  3. Jordan Travis (QB – Florida State) – He’s played well against one of the better schedules in the country so far. Outside of a potential highly ranked Miami, will he have many games to draw the spotlight?
  4. Bo Nix (QB – Oregon) – slow start for the Ducks Saturday at Stanford but then 42 straight to win 42-6. Nix has showcase games to make his case ahead in Pac-12 play.
  5. Kyle McCord (QB – Ohio State) – had a bye week but the win at Notre Dame keeps him on the board.
