Derek’s 2013 NBA Finals Prediction

by Derek Franks

While I think Miami is potentially the most difficult team in the NBA to guard/score against, it does not mean they are by any means invincible. Unlike last year’s playoff campaign, the Heat have struggled to be consistent from the field, especially from three point range, and they have proven that a team with a strong defense can expose them. On top of that, their “Big 3” has underperformed as a whole, with only Lebron James truly holding his own throughout the post season. On the flipside, San Antonio benefits from a core of players who’ve been here, younger players playing at almost elite levels and a coach in Greg Popovich who will easily out-wit Miami’s Erik Spolestra. While the Heat had a favorable opponent for them in last year’s finals, this year’s poses a team with a very strong defense, enough offense and depth and superior coaching to get it done. I expect San Antonio to start rusty and all six games to be close but the Spurs will pull it out 4-2.
