Matt’s Mind – ATS Plays for NBA Playoffs (April 24, 2013)

Disappointing 1-2 night last night as the Golden State Warriors put on one of the most impressive offensive performances in NBA Playoff history.  They made me look bad as I thought Denver would easily cover -8.  I was way off on that one.  The Bucks did shoot better last night but the Heat shot much worse than game 1 and that made my over look bad as well.  At least the Knicks and Celtics went under as I expected.  So thanks Knicks and Celtics for not making me look like a total dope yesterday.  With my record in the 2013 NBA Playoffs falling to 7-5-1 (58%) but at least doing well enough to have a positive return, I give you my thoughts on tonight’s NBA Playoffs.

Houston Rockets at Oklahoma City Thunder

The total was under last time and tonight’s total is only half a point less.  The Rockets shot an awful 36% in that game.  Granted OKC played very well defensively but I expect the Rockets to come out and shoot much better and break 100 tonight.  OKC should cruise to victory again and they should shred the Rockets for a bunch of points also.  I think tonight’s total easily breaks 212.5.

The Play:  Over 212.5

Atlanta Hawks at Indiana Pacers

The Pacers were impressive in game 1 putting Atlanta away early.  I expect more of the same tonight.  I think the Pacers are flying under the radar.  They’re not in a big market but are a team that needs to be taken as a contender in the East.  I think they want to dispatch the Hawks as quickly as possible to prepare for a possible series with the Knicks that would resemble the Reggie Miller versus Patrick Ewing era.

The Play:  Pacers -7.5

Los Angeles Lakers at San Antonio Spurs

The Lakers just haven’t had any consistency this season on offense largely due to injuries.  Part is having to adjust to a new system during the season but when the same five guys can never be together there’s no flow to the game.  San Antonio is not the team you can figure things out against on the fly.  They have a point guard who knows how to control the game and run great half court sets.  I think the Spurs again limit the Lakers offensively and I think the total is the play tonight.

The Play:  Under 186.5
