Matt’s Mind: ATS Thoughts for the NCAA Tournament Final Four

We’re down to the Final Four!  One team is just two wins away from cutting down the nets.  I’m hoping this Final Four shows a little more offense than we’ve seen in most tournament games.  This season of college basketball has seen some horrendous offense.  I think it’s more of pitiful offensive skill than superior defense.

I’m a fan of the Missouri Valley and am glad to see the Shockers of Wichita State in the Final Four.  They have a solid program under Coach Marshall and they’ll be contenders as long as he stays there.  Before we get to the predictions I’d like to wish Kevin Ware a speedy recovery.  I couldn’t believe my eyes seeing his injury live last Sunday.  I hope he’s doing well and is able to return to the court at some point.

Louisville Cardinals vs. Wichita State Shockers

Louisville has been the most impressive team so far in their ability to pull away from the opposition.  Wichita State didn’t take an easy road here as they beat the top two seeds out West on their way to Atlanta.  Louisville has the better talent in this matchup but the Shockers won’t back down to anyone.  I expect them to keep this game in single digits throughout as they slow the game down and play more deliberate to keep Louisville from getting so many fast break points.  This is a game  I’d probably stay away from though.

ATS Play:  Wichita State +10.5

Syracuse Orange vs. Michigan Wolverines

Michigan was impressive in blowing out Florida by 20 last weekend.  Syracuse’s defense has stymied the opposition.  Their length I think will make the difference in this game.  Michigan isn’t going to be able to get good shots from the inside.  They’ll have to win this game with their perimeter shooting.  I like this matchup and think it’ll make for a great semifinal.  I like the ‘Cuse to advance to a rematch of the Big East Tournament Championship.

ATS Play:  Syracuse +2
