NFL Survivor Pool Pick Strategy
There are simple steps to cut down your potential picks for your NFL survivor pool. Follow the strategy below to make your week 9 NFL Survivor Pool pick.
Finished 2018 with 5 straight wins and off to a 8-1 start in 2019 as the Seattle Seahawks survived last week with an OT win over the Bucs!
We have 13 games in NFL week 10 so that’s our list to start.
Eliminate Toss-Up Winners
First, I eliminate toss-up games. That means I’m scratching the 1 point winners out of the list.
There aren’t any predicted 1 point winners this week so we’re still at 13 teams for our week 10 NFL Survivor Pool Pick.
Eliminate Road Winners
Then I eliminate road teams. When you need a guaranteed win like you do to win your survivor pool, go with a home team.
Six predicted road winners in week 10 so we’re slicing our list to 7 remaining candidates for our NFL Survivor Pool Pick this week. Gone are the Chargers, Ravens, Bills, Chiefs, Giants and Rams.
Eliminate Low Ranking Winners
Next, I look for teams that aren’t in our top 20 of the power rankings.
This knocks out two teams from consideration for our week 10 NFL survivor pool pick as the Bucs and Bears are ranked too low for consideration. We’re down to 5 teams.
Eliminate Winners Playing Good Teams
Finally, I look for our predicted winners that are playing teams ranked in the top 16 of our data driven NFL power rankings and take them out of consideration.
This eliminates the Dallas Cowboys against the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers against Carolina Panthers and the San Francisco 49ers against the Seattle Seahawks.

Final Week 10 NFL Survivor Pool Pick Candidates
Surviving the NFL week 10 cut are:
- New Orleans Saints
- Indianapolis Colts
I then compare this list against who I’ve already used this season. That list includes Seahawks, Ravens, Cowboys, Colts, Eagles, Patriots, Bills, Vikings and Seahawks.
The Colts were the pick earlier this season and were my lone wrong pick in 2019 as they lost to the Raiders in Indy. With Jacoby Brissett not at 100%, I’m staying away.
Even though I tend to avoid divisional games in making a survivor pool pick, the New Orleans Saints will blow out the Falcons this week.
