Survivor Pool Pick Strategy:
There are four steps to easily cut down your potential pick for your NFL survivor pool.
Eliminate Toss-Up Winners
First we eliminate toss-up games. That means we’re cutting the 1 point winners out of the list.
Gone from our list of 16 week 1 winners are the Titans (at Jaguars), Panthers (vs. Bills) and Cowboys (at Broncos). 13 teams remain.
Eliminate Road Winners
Next we eliminate road teams. I don’t like taking road teams to win in the NFL at all. Just too risky when you need a win, go with a home team.
Eliminating predicted road winners, we take out the Patriots (at Saints), Cardinals (at Colts) and Redskins (at Rams). Ten teams are left to consider.
Eliminate Low Ranking Winners
Next, I look for team that aren’t in our 20 of the power rankings. This eliminates the Bengals (28th) and Giants (25th). Eight teams remain in consideration.
Eliminate Winners Playing Good Teams
Then, I look for our predicted winners that are playing teams ranked in the top 16 and take them out of consideration. This eliminates the Chiefs (vs. Eagles), Steelers (vs. Vikings), Chargers (vs. Dolphins) and Falcons (vs. Packers). Four teams are left to make our NFL week 2 survivor pick.
Eliminate the Teams We’ve Already Picked in 2017
We picked and survived last week with the Bills.
Final Survivor Pool Pick Candidates
Our final four picks to consider are the Ravens, Bucs, Raiders and Seahawks.
4 – Bucs (against Bears) – The Bears hung in and had a chance to beat the Falcons in the final seconds last Sunday. They just couldn’t get it done and now tangle with another NFC South team in week 2. The Bucs’ week 1 game was postponed due to Hurricane Irma. The Bucs should be ready to play but look for the Bears to hang in this game and make this the closest game of our four survivor pool candidates this week.
3 – Ravens (against Browns) – The Ravens destroyed the Bengals last week. They were one of the weekend’s most impressive teams as they pitched a shutout on the road against a divisional foe. They get a Browns team that was competitive. Ravens are a pretty safe pick but not as easy as one of our top two picks.
2 – Seattle Seahawks (against 49ers) – The Seahawks have their home opener against the 49ers. Both lost week 1, the 49ers only put up 3 points while the Seahawks couldn’t hit double digits either. Look for the Seahawks defense to swarm the limited 49ers offense and Russell Wilson to hit a couple of big plays to get the Seahawks a win.
1 – Raiders (against Jets) – The Raiders opened the season with a great win in Tennessee. The Jets are putrid on offense. The only chance they have in this game is getting a defense TD to help that O out. The Raiders will be too much. Take the Raiders to survive NFL week 2.
