NFL Survivor Pool Pick Strategy
There are simple steps to cut down your potential picks for your NFL survivor pool. Follow the strategy below to make your week NFL Survivor Pool pick.
Finished 2018 with 5 straight wins and off to a 1-0 start in 2019!
Eliminate Teams Already Used
First, I eliminate the team I’ve already used. After sweating out the Seahawks 1 point win over the Bengals, they won and survived but are out of consideration for the rest of the season.
Eliminate Toss-Up Winners
First, I eliminate toss-up games. That means I’m scratching the 1 point winners out of the list.
Five teams are 1 point winners this week so we’re eliminating the Colts, Vikings, Eagles and Browns. We’re down to 11 teams for our week 2 NFL Survivor Pool Pick.
Eliminate Road Winners
Then I eliminate road teams. When you need a guaranteed win like you do to win your survivor pool, go with a home team.
Five predicted road winners in week 2 so we’re making another big cut to our list of 10 remaining candidates for our NFL Survivor Pool Pick this week. Gone are the Cowboys, Chargers, Patriots, Chiefs and Bears.
We have six teams remaining.
Eliminate Low Ranking Winners
Next, I look for teams that aren’t in our top 20 of the power rankings.
This knocks out two teams from consideration for our week 2 NFL survivor pool pick
Four teams remain.
Eliminate Winners Playing Good Teams
Finally, I look for our predicted winners that are playing teams ranked in the top 16 of our data driven NFL power rankings and take them out of consideration.
This eliminates the Los Angeles Rams who host the New Orleans Saints.
We have three teams to consider.

Final Week 2 NFL Survivor Pool Pick Candidates
Surviving the week 2 NFL cut are:
- Carolina Panthers
- Houston Texans
- Baltimore Ravens
Once, I’ve cut the teams down and have my final candidates for my NFL survivor pool pick, I rank them.
I don’t like teams playing divisional games.
3 – Houston Texans (against Jacksonville Jaguars) – Gardner Minshew played well in his debut replacing the injured Nick Foles on Sunday and with the Texans coming off a tough Monday night loss in addition to being a divisional game, I’m staying away.
2 – Carolina Panthers (against Tampa Bay Bucs) – Another divisional game and short week with this being on Thursday night. Plus I love the pick for this week.
1 – Baltimore Ravens (against Arizona Cardinals) – The Ravens had a dominant week 1 performance. That’s not why I’m loving this match-up. I think their defense is perfectly suited with their speed to contain Kyler Murray.
