NFL Survivor Pool Pick Strategy
There are simple steps to cut down your potential picks for your NFL survivor pool. Follow the strategy below to make your week NFL Survivor Pool pick.
Finished 2018 with 5 straight wins and off to a 3-0 start in 2019 but died last week as the Colts dropped one to the Raiders!
So we’re 3-1 in 2019.
Eliminate Teams Already Used
First, I eliminate the team I’ve already used. We’ve used the The Seahawks (week 1), Ravens (week 2), Cowboys (week 3) and Colts (week 4). The Cowboys and Ravens are predicted winners so our list of 15 is cut to 13 right off the bat.
Eliminate Toss-Up Winners
First, I eliminate toss-up games. That means I’m scratching the 1 point winners out of the list.
Two teams are 1 point winners this week but we’ve already used them, the Rams and Ravens We’re down to 12 teams for our week 5 NFL Survivor Pool Pick.
Eliminate Road Winners
Then I eliminate road teams. When you need a guaranteed win like you do to win your survivor pool, go with a home team.
Three predicted road winners in week 5 so we’re making cutting our list to 9 remaining candidates for our NFL Survivor Pool Pick this week. Gone are the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears (in London).
Eliminate Low Ranking Winners
Next, I look for teams that aren’t in our top 20 of the power rankings.
This knocks out 1 team, the Cincinnati Bengals, from consideration for our week 5 NFL survivor pool pick.
Eight teams remain.
Eliminate Winners Playing Good Teams
Finally, I look for our predicted winners that are playing teams ranked in the top 16 of our data driven NFL power rankings and take them out of consideration.
This eliminates the Kansas City Chiefs who host the Indianapolis Colts.
We have seven teams to consider for our week 5 NFL survivor pool pick.

Final Week 5 NFL Survivor Pool Pick Candidates
Surviving the week NFL cut are:
- Houston Texans
- Tennessee Titans
- Carolina Panthers
- Philadelphia Eagles
- New Orleans Saints
- Los Angeles Chargers
- San Francisco 49ers
Once, I’ve cut the teams down and have my final candidates for my NFL survivor pool pick, I rank them.
7 – New Orleans Saints (against Tampa Bay Bucs) – I stay away from divisional games.
6 – Los Angeles Chargers (against Denver Broncos) – Again a divisional game so I’m passing.
5 – San Francisco 49ers (against Cleveland Browns) – This Monday Night Football Showdown has meaning after the Browns big win in Baltimore last Sunday. Can they stay on track this week? I’ll look elsewhere for a sure thing this week.
4 – Tennessee Titans (against Buffalo Bills) – Will the Bills bounce back from a disappointing loss against the Patriots? Which Tennessee team shows up? Too many questions in this game.
3 – Carolina Panthers (against Jacksonville Jaguars) – Gardner Minshew is banged up. Does Kyle Allen keep playing well for the Panthers?
2 – Houston Texans (against Atlanta Falcons) – The Texans are solid at home and the Falcons are up and down. I’d fade the Falcons.
1 – Philadelphia Eagles (against New York Jets) – This is a beatdown situation. The Jets aren’t good and the Eagles look to follow up last week’s big win on Thursday night in Green Bay.
