Do you agree with Charles Barkely and doubt the validity of analytics? Well I decided to test us versus just random drawing of teams out of a hat.
All 30 MLB teams were dropped in the hat. I drew one out at a time as the “winner” of their 2015 season opener. Here’s are the picks side-by-side.
GAME | HAT | FORMULATOR |
Cardinals at Cubs | Cubs | Cardinals |
Rockies at Brewers | Brewers | Brewers |
Mets at Nationals | Nationals | Nationals |
Braves at Marlins | Braves | Marlins |
Pirates at Reds | Pirates | Reds |
Padres at Dodgers | Padres | Dodgers |
Giants at Diamondbacks | Giants | Giants |
Blue Jays at Yankees | Blue Jays | Yankees |
Twins at Tigers | Twins | Tigers |
Orioles at Rays | Orioles | Orioles |
White Sox at Royals | Royals | Royals |
Angels at Mariners | Angels | Mariners |
Indians at Astros | Indians | Indians |
Rangers at A’s | A’s | A’s |
Red Sox at Phillies | Red Sox | Phillies |
We have 8 different picks so I publish this with some trepidation as I risk my company’s reputation with this experiment but I believe in data driven sports predictions. I believe the Formulator will get the win in this competition of analytics versus randomness.
Enjoy MLB Opening Day today and we’ll recap everything on Tuesday and might keep this experiment going for a few more days.
