Best Bets for Week 1 College Football on Thursday, September 1, 2022
by Matt Fischer
1) Penn State at Purdue – Thank you Big Ten for a great opener! This really is an interesting game. Purdue is flying under the radar. Jeff Brohm has himself a good squad and they’re going to be the talk of college football Friday morning. Purdue wins outright! If want to win the most, bet the Boilermakers on the moneyline (+145) or if you’re being conservative take them +3.5.
2) Ball State at Tennessee – The line keeps moving in favor of the Vols. I love Tennessee this year. I think they’ll have one of the SEC’s most high powered offenses and they make a statement in the opener and run the scoreboard up all night. Take Tennessee -35.
3) West Virginia at Pitt – Both teams are breaking in new transfer QB’s so that makes this a tough game to pick. I liked Kedon Slovis at USC and think he can make more plays. This is a rivalry game so it makes me a little hesitant
