NFL Survivor Pool Pick Strategy

There are simple steps to cut down your potential picks for your NFL survivor pool.  Follow the strategy below to make your week NFL Survivor Pool pick.  All 32 teams are in action in week 1 so we start with a full slate.

After a 15-2 season in 2017, dropped to 11-6 last year but finished with 5 straight wins so coming in hot to 2019!

Eliminate Toss-Up Winners

First, I eliminate toss-up games.  That means I’m scratching the 1 point winners out of the list.

The Cleveland Browns are 1 point predicted winners in week 1 against the Titans. They’re eliminated from contention and we’re down to 15 teams.

Eliminate Road Winners

Then I eliminate road teams.   When you need a guaranteed win like you do to win your survivor pool, go with a home team.

Several predicted road winners in week 1 so we’re making a big cut to our list of 15 remaining candidates for our NFL Survivor Pool Pick. Gone are the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos.

We have nine teams remaining.

Eliminate Low Ranking Winners

Next, I look for teams that aren’t in our top 20 of the power rankings.

One team fits that in week 1. See ya next week New York Jets.

Eight teams remain.

Eliminate Winners Playing Good Teams

Finally, I look for our predicted winners that are playing teams ranked in the top 16 of our data driven NFL power rankings and take them out of consideration.

No longer being considered are the Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints.

We have five teams to consider.

Final Week 1 NFL Survivor Pool Pick Candidates

Surviving the week 1 NFL cut are:

  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Minnesota Vikings
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Chicago Bears

Once, I’ve cut the teams down and have my final candidates for my NFL survivor pool pick, I rank them.

I don’t like teams playing divisional games.

5 – Chicago Bears (against Green Bay Packers) – An old rivalry game where the home team, Chicago, hasn’t played their starters at all in the preseason. Will they be ready for the league opener on Thursday Night Football? I’ll stay away from a team that could be rusty.

4 – Dallas Cowboys (against New York Giants) – Will Zeke play? With such a big unkown, I’ll pass on this game when I need a must win.

3 – Philadelphia Eagles (against Washington Redskins) – I think the Redskins are going to be bad. The Eagles will be really good. It’s a divisional game though so I’m going to pass on it for week 1.

2 – Minnesota Vikings (against Atlanta Falcons) – The Falcons will be the road team but should be comfortable in a dome. The Vikings will be better but with a veteran QB like Matt Ryan, the Falcons could hang around.

1 – Seattle Seahawks (against Cincinnati Bengals) – Seattle has one of the best homefield advantages in the NFL. I look for them to come out and blow the Bengals out.
