NFL Survivor Pool Pick Strategy
There are simple steps to cut down your potential picks for your NFL survivor pool. Follow the strategy below to make your week 9 NFL Survivor Pool pick.
Finished 2018 with 5 straight wins and off to a 7-1 start in 2019 as the Minnesota Vikings survived week 8 with a win over the Redskins!
We have 14 games in NFL week 9 so that’s our list to start.
Eliminate Toss-Up Winners
First, I eliminate toss-up games. That means I’m scratching the 1 point winners out of the list.
The New York Jets and Carolina Panthers are predicted 1 point winners this week so we’re eliminating them. We’re down to 12 teams for our week 9 NFL Survivor Pool Pick.
Eliminate Road Winners
Then I eliminate road teams. When you need a guaranteed win like you do to win your survivor pool, go with a home team.
Only one predicted road winners remain in week 9 so we’re slicing our list to 6 remaining candidates for our NFL Survivor Pool Pick this week. Gone are the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans who play in London.
Eliminate Low Ranking Winners
Next, I look for teams that aren’t in our top 20 of the power rankings.
This knocks out 2 teams from consideration for our week 9 NFL survivor pool pick as the Broncos and Chargers are ranked too low for consideration. We’re down to 4 teams
Eliminate Winners Playing Good Teams
Finally, I look for our predicted winners that are playing teams ranked in the top 16 of our data driven NFL power rankings and take them out of consideration.
This eliminates the Kansas City Chiefs against the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Indianapolis Colts.

Final Week NFL Survivor Pool Pick Candidates
Surviving the NFL week 9 cut are:
- Buffalo Bills
- Seattle Seahawks
I then compare this list against who I’ve already used this season. That list includes Seahawks, Ravens, Cowboys, Colts, Eagles, Patriots, Bills and Vikings.
The Bills have been used this season already and won, thanks Bills! So I’m going with the Seattle Seahawks against the Bucs. The Seahawks and Bucs have both been up and down this season but I’m going to roll with Russell Wilson to keep the Bucs from getting a second win on the west cost this season (remember when the Bucs hung 55 on the Rams in LA).
